Malagouzia

By far the Domaine’s premier white wine, Malagouzia , is born on the slopes of Mount Meliton on Sithonia’s Peninsula, Halkidiki. Strong in aromas, offering a bouquet of exotic fruit, this well- rounded fleshy wine with the distinct finish does justice to the one of the oldest rightly, celebrated Greek varieties. The perfect complement to fresh fish cooked in the oven. Skin contact at low temperature. Vinification in stainless steel vats using selected yeasts at temperatures between 61-65 °F. Aging on its lees for few months with periodical stirring, while a part matures in French oak barrels, enriching in this way the character of Malagouzia. Organoleptic Analysis: Bright Lemon yellow colour. Complex nose of fruits, peach, mango, citron and herbal hints of basil & mint. Full rich and round mouth with intense flavor and long aftertaste.

The vineyards are found at an altitude of 550-700 m on the north-east Olympus slopes, in Prosilia and Tourtoura.
The soil consists mainly of iron-rich schist. The iron in the soil is an important quality factor, since it regulates the water capacity of the soil. The soil is poor in organic substances. Its structure enables the penetration of the roots into the sub-soil, so that the vine does not suffer from lack of moisture during the summer. The sub-soil is sandy-clayey.The cultivation is dry and organic which yields no more than 5-8 tn/ha.
